Chicago: Boat deck, Sky Deck & buildings… (Sorry about all the buildings)

Chicago had a ton of metal cows all around the city at one time… They got dressed up for various occasions… This is the kind of important stuff you learn when you travel.

Chicago is beautiful, so beautiful I decided to do an “Architectual Tour”… On the river.
It was amazing, so many of the buildings worth seeing are situated along the river and we got right up next to them. The tour guide, Sarah, was another prime example of awesomesauce, she knew her sh*t, wow! Another one of those “should be stand-up comedian, turned tour guide”, she went from “said building made in (year) by (architect) represents (stuffz) and (facts)” to “Transformers was filmed there, me and Shia LeBoeuf had a thing… stop laughing, you don’t know my life!” and back again. I loved her.

Now, I could rant on about the buildings, but to be honest I don’t remember half of the stuff she told us. I remember the funny stuff, like the opera house looking like a chair because the owner built it for his mistress after New York Metropolitan rejected her as an opera singer and he “wanted to sit with his back turned to New York”. Anything interesting can be found on internet, I’m sure, but I will provide you with some half-assed, amateur photographs of them. Lucky you… I picked a good day for it, sun was out today, but I am slowly regretting sending all my warm stuff home with Tiril 😛 (S-M-R-T) – Chicago’s not cold, but it’s not warm either… The Windy City – oh yes.

After the cruise tour thingy I took a cab to Sears/Willis Tower (I know, decadent me…) and went to see the ledge. Of course I went to see the ledge. It’s high up, gut churning, fear-of-heights-inducing fun! I heard it cracked once. So I was totally gonna go stand on it. Which I did. The road to get there though… oh man… what a line. And they herd you through this little movie theater to watch a movie about how the tower was built etc. Kind of the same they had at Pearl Harbour, only that the Pearl Harbour-movie was interesting 😛 But, anyway, I got there in the end and did the whole shebang. I took the professional pic and then stood in the longer line to have some more time on the ledge, looking straight down, it was awesome 😀

After the tower I had warmed up considerably, lovely, no more chilled to the bone. But I was starving so I headed over to Giordano’s which was close by and a must-do while in Chicago. I was conflicted for a while, since I discovered Jimmy John’s right across the road… What to dooo? I ended up at Giordano’s. Very happy about that, the pizza was fantastic and I met Robert and Michael, my two new Facebook-friends. We ended up eating together and just hit it off completely. I’ve only met them this one short time, but I really dig those guys. So easy-going and positive… They just got married, I got to see photos. Win. Thanks for a great night, guys ❤

Day two was spent wandering around the city, my aim was just to get a feel for the place and see the Bean (“Cloud Gate”, the bean-shaped sculpture you see on the first picture of this article). Saw the bean, saw millenium park, tried to get in to the Art Institute of Chicago, but apparantly they don’t sell any more tickets after 16.45 (What?? They’re open until 20.00!) so that was a bust, but hey 😛 I guess I’ll have to see that next time.

Oh… And… eh… Sorry about all the pictures of buildings 😛 I like buildings…

So.. apparantly this hot, roast beef sub comes with cheese... And nothing else *lol*

This building used to be symmetrical, but they had to cut away one column of windows on the left side to make room for a new street. Damn! I remembered more!
