Grand Central Station is a must-see if you like architecture. That’s all there is to it.
You wont get the hushed feel of ancient churches and old ruins at the GCS, cause it’s very much a live hub for transportation today, but it is still worth a visit. I was amazed at the size of everything, as I often am when I visit old train stations. The slight shivering in the floor from the trains underneath was fantastic, I just stood there and felt the vibrations like another stoopid toorist 😉
The painted ceiling is fabulous. Rumour has it that the painters did it wrong, though. They lay the image down on the groud and copied it that way onto to ceiling, creating a mirror image rather than a true copy. Instead of doing it over the owners at the time, (saving money, no doubt), decided to concoct a story that “this was the way God saw the constellations”, because he “was on the other side of the sky”. Yeah…
